With COVID affecting our lives this past year, so many of us have become lazy. Or if you were already lazy, you’re probably feeling even extra lazy! I work from home, and this has pros and cons – one major con being that I can be so lazy if I allow myself. That’s the key though… you have to not allow yourself to be lazy!
It’s much easier said than done, let me tell you. You don’t just decide one day “I’m not going to be lazy” and instantly feel motivated to get moving. So then, how do you stop being lazy?

Here are my top 5 tips on how to not be lazy:
1 – Don’t rely on motivation
If you try to rely on feeling motivated all of the time, you definitely won’t succeed. This really applies to anything in life. It’s not to say that you won’t ever feel motivated, it’s just that you won’t always feel motivated. It’s easy to do things when you feel motivated obviously. If all of us were always motivated then none of us would be lazy! Instead of relying just on motivation, you need to have self discipline and dedication. Show up for yourself on those days that you don’t feel like it. Whether if your task is something for yourself like working out or eating better, or if it’s something boring like doing dishes, remind yourself that in the end when it’s done, you will feel so much better!
2 – Make your goals realistic and achievable
If you have completely unrealistic goals, then you will feel like you’re constantly trying and never gaining anything. Why try if nothing comes from it anyways? You have to set realistic and achievable goals for yourself. If you have a huge goal, set little goals to achieve along the way. That way you can accomplish the big picture in the end, without feeling totally overwhelmed and unmotivated in the process.
3 – Don’t be too hard on yourself
If you expect yourself to be an overachiever every second of everyday, you will burn out quick! Good things take time! You’re going to have days where things don’t go your way, and days when you just flat out don’t feel like doing anything. Allowing yourself to have some down time and have a rest day is important. Yes, you’re reading that right – I am telling you to sometimes be lazy! We all need some time to relax and breathe. Self care is important, and you need to make sure you’re making time for yourself along your journey. Don’t be too hard on yourself, and don’t expect the world from yourself all of the time. It’s important to think positive throughout your day to avoid losing motivation.

4 – Make a list and stick to it
Making lists is a great way to hold yourself accountable for what needs to be done during the day. I’ve recently started doing this myself to keep myself on time so that I can achieve my goals each day. Otherwise, personally, my mind goes all over the place and I get all of these ideas and will feel overwhelmed and not get anything accomplished. Like I said earlier, you need to have the self dedication to make yourself get up and stick to the list! When you can see everything that you need to get done for the day, sometimes it may feel like too much, but it will also help you stay on track and feel like you can do it.
5 – Try to get things done early in the day if possible
Listen, I know myself, and I need to get things done asap if possible. For example, if I want to work out, I need to do it in the morning. Otherwise if I keep pushing it off more and more, I won’t get it done. Maybe you’re the same way, and even if you’re not, I still encourage you to get your tasks done early in the day if possible! You can check it off your list and have the rest of your day to do whatever you’d like, without thinking in the back of your mind about all of the things that need to get done today.
