We all go through stressful days! Work is stressful, kids are stressful, and it’s hard to find a balance between it all sometimes. This is why positive thinking is important! You need to find time to focus on you, and make yourself and your mental health a priority. This means sometimes saying NO. Or, sometimes saying YES!
I do want to mention that, life can be hard. And sometimes, things happen that just aren’t fair. Someone you love gets sick, diseases come around, divorces happen… hard, hard times can arise. And for those circumstances I highly recommend a professional to help.

Here are my top 3 tips on some positive thinking examples to keep a positive mindset!
1 – Look at your surroundings
You are a product of your environment. Did you read that? Read it again! Because it’s SO true. Little things that we don’t even realize are affecting us, are affecting us. The way we think, the way we talk, the way we feel about ourselves… this is all from your surroundings. Who do you hang out with? What do you do in your free time? What shows or movies do you watch? What books do you read? What kind of songs do you listen to? Are ANY of these things uplifting in your life? Make a list of all of this. Keep what’s positive, and toss what’s negative.
For example, I realized a major shift in my mindset when I started having my car radio set to the Christian music station everyday. Now if you’re not religious that’s fine, this is just an example. The words in these songs are so uplifting, and over time I would get these songs stuck in my head instead of WAP. Or whatever is on the radio these days! And it makes me feel better reiterating those types of lyrics in my head. I didn’t even realize the types of songs I was listening to before and how it affected my mindset. That’s not to say you can’t ever listen to those songs for fun on occasion, my point is to not make it an everyday thing.
Maybe there’s something else in your life that needs to be worked on. Figure out what those spots are that need improving, and work at it daily! Your thoughts will change over time.

2 – Use positive affirmations
Another tactic to use is to fill your mind with positive affirmations. This takes work, and is not as simple as it sounds! It’s so easy to get caught up in your mind when you are stressed out, and completely feed into those negative thoughts. You have to train yourself to be conscious and aware of when you are having those negative thoughts, to turn them into positive ones. If you find yourself overwhelmed, remind yourself in that moment of what you have to be grateful for. If you’re feeling down about yourself, tell yourself that those are lies your mind is feeding you and replace them with happy thoughts. Here is a free printable list of 30 positive affirmations!
3 – Do something productive for yourself
When you do something productive, it will make you feel accomplished. However, I’m not saying to go do the dishes as something productive. You need to put your health first and do something for YOU! I’m sure you have some things you like to do, some goals you have for yourself, etc. For example, I work out pretty much everyday, not for physical reasons but because I mentally feel so good afterwards and it puts me in a positive mindset! Like “Yes! I just did that!” Exercise is a great tactic for mental health but there are plenty of other hobbies you can do too. Or sometimes, you just need a night to relax and unwind! You can try some breathing exercises to calm your mind, and maybe have a nice little spa night for yourself with a face mask in a bubble bath. That in itself is something productive that you can do for your mental health. And when you feel productive, you will think good, positive thoughts.
I definitely think that if you apply all of this to your daily life, you will find that you think positively about situations you might not have in the past! Again, this is not a quick fix, and it will take work everyday to see results. A habit is formed over a minimum of 21 days, and you need to stick with it! Show up for yourself!
